Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is one of the more fulfilling operations that a plastic surgeon does. It involves the mobilisation of the nipple which is still attached to the patient’s chest wall up into a higher position, and then the removal of a large or smaller amount of the bottom part of the breast. A new breast is reconstructed from the upper remnant and then the nipple is repositioned in the new reconstructed breast. This surgery produces enormous benefit to the patient and virtually every patient who has this operation expresses extreme happiness with the outcome. Return to work is possible after a period of between 3 and 4 weeks and the scarring subsides over a period of a year. The scar quality is variable but the majority of patients express satisfaction with this. Rarely does scar have to be revised.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is one of the common and popular breast surgeries.
Dr Lewis has been doing these since 1972 and believes in the efficacy and safety of silicone breast implants. He uses both the round and anatomical breast shaped implants depending on his preoperative assessment of the patient. The implants can be placed either in front or behind the chest muscle and this once again depends upon each individual’s pre operative state. Breast augmentation is essentially a safe and reliable operation but it does come with complications flowing from the fact that a foreign body is being used. Occasionally there will be infection or wound breakdown which can radically alter the outcome. Overall however it is one of the most satisfying operations for patients, with an almost universal positive outcome.
